Physical conditioning

Methods

The physical conditioning performed at the CEP is based on Gilles Cometti’s conception.

Gilles Cometti’s conception

This conception is based on his own classification of physical qualities. For him, all physical qualities have a common component: muscle as the only system producing the force necessary for movements.  This central element is then declined on 3 axes: time (production of the energy needed for the contraction), amplitude (muscle length) and analysis level (coordination between several micro and macroscopic structures).
To develop physical qualities, it is therefore necessary to focus on the enhancement of contractions quality, ie to develop first and foremost strength (qualitative component). Endurance enhancement (quantitative component) comes later. In this way, qualitative and quantitative components correspond to the requirements of most sports, ie to develop the physical qualities needed to realize the determinant actions of an activity and then enhance the ability to repeat these actions several times.

For more information about Gilles Cometti’s conception on physical conditioning, see CEP’s publications and downloadable documents.

Physical conditioning procedure

The starting point of our physical conditioning is the analysis of the activity (efforts type, duration, number…).

The second point is the athletes’ evaluation. This evaluation aims to determine the strengths, weaknesses, unbalances, deficits… of each athlete in order to give the best orientation possible to physical training to enhance physical qualities or at least to maintain them all year long, and to prevent injuries.

Depending on the goals, work is programmed with several dominants. Different methods will therefore be used.
